Barbed Wire Art
Barbed wire - not just for fencing!
McVeigh Parker CEO Chris Hambridge captured these remarkable sculptures during his visit to Australia. They serve as a reminder that even the most unassuming materials, including rusted wire, can be transformed into something genuinely impressive in the right hands.
These remarkable sculptures were part of Sculptures Out Back 2024, an annual outdoor exhibition held in the Maranoa region of Outback Queensland. The initiative brings together artists from across Australia to create large‑scale, three‑dimensional works designed for outdoor display. The event celebrates creativity, craftsmanship, and regional identity, showcasing pieces made from durable materials capable of withstanding the harsh outback environment.
Among the standout works were the emu sculptures — five of them collectively achieved $15,000. The car sculpture also drew considerable attention, ultimately reaching $30,000. These results highlight the growing appreciation for rural artistry and the ingenuity of makers who see potential in materials often overlooked.

Chris’s photographs were later published in Fencing Times magazine in 2025, offering readers a glimpse into how everyday fencing materials can be reimagined as expressive, large‑scale artworks. We hope this story inspires others and perhaps leads to more rusted wire being transformed into art.
