British Open Fencing Championships

On the 19th and 20th September APF 2024 is proud to host the British Open Fencing Championships sponsored by McVeigh Parker.   12 two person teams will compete head to head and against the clock to win the prestigious title of the British Open winner and collect the trophy, with prizes for the runners up.    The competition will take place in the fencing arena in the fencing village on the synonymous Ragley Hall slope which brings a more realistic approach to fencing.

The Teams have to erect 32m of stock fencing in 4 hours.  The fence has to consist of one turn and have both strutted and box strainers.  Only hand tools are allowed.  Points will be won and lost on the overall straightness of the fence, how vertical the posts are and how neatly the struts are fitted to strainers, wire tension and the knots used on the wire and netting.  Full details of exact criteria are available from the organisers.

The presentation to the winners will take place at 4pm on the 20th on the McVeigh Parker stand.

The Fencing Village

The Fencing Village was a new feature for APF 2022 that proved a real success, it will be repeated for 2024 and grown bigger with more trade stands linked with fencing industry getting involved, many leading brands will on show.  Its a must see area for anyone involved in installing, purchasing or specifying fencing.

The British Open Speed Fencing competition

NEW for 2024, McVeigh Parker will be hosting the inaugural British Open Speed Fencing competition, a unique fencing competition that was born out of the higher demand and interest in Clipex steel fence posts.  Competitors will compete throughout the day of the 19th September, teams will pitch against each other under clock but not ignoring the quality of their work. They will be expected to erect 60m of fencing using Clipex intermediate posts, Triple X strainers and X fence fabricated netting, joining and tensioning using the latest fixings on the market from Gripple and Strainrite. The winner will have the kudos of being the first British Open Speed Fencer 2024.

Stuart Mills, Sales director of McVeigh Parker Fencing and Farm suppliers said “ 2022  went extremely well. We had received very positive feedback from both competitors and visitors so made the call to repeat again, with the added Speed competition which will help showcase the speed in which you can erect Clipex fencing.

With so many foresters being involved in fencing either erecting or specifying, this audience is a very important area we want to demonstrate to. We look forward to welcoming old and new this year.”
