Parham Estate is one of the country’s finest Elizabethan houses, set at the foot of the South Downs in West Sussex.

Parham House & Gardens is surrounded by some 875 acres of working agricultural and forestry land, including 300 acres of ancient parkland where a herd of 300 dark fallow deer roams wild.

There was a need to protect the gardens and estate whilst maintaining its tranquillity and beauty. James Cobb Fencing was awarded the contract to replace the old perimeter deer fencing as well as erect a suitable internal fence in keeping with the gardens and the house. For the outer deer fence the contractor opted for XFence XHT13-190-15 deer netting in 200 metre rolls, the longer rolls making installation easier with their Quickfencer and with fewer joins. The wire also benefitted from its triple life alu/zinc coating which darkens over time reducing the visual impact of a wire fence. This was erected on traditional UC4 timber stakes and wooden deer gates at the entrances to soften the visual impact.

Internally, deer parkland fencing in its natural state was chosen for the grounds, the finish meaning that future maintenance would be kept to a minimum. The organic brown rust colour patina  fitted in perfectly with the historic surroundings, making it aesthetically suited to the rural environment. This fencing was complemented with matching parkland deer gates and posts.

Heavy gauge hexagonal rabbit netting was also added to the parkland fencing to protect the gardens from rabbit intrusion.

Parham Estate were very delighted with the work of James Cobb Fencing and the overall appearance of the end result.
