A high‑performance alternative to traditional timber strainers

Tornado’s Pro‑Strain® system is an advanced steel straining solution engineered to outperform conventional wooden strainers. Developed in collaboration with leading UK agricultural fencing contractors, Pro‑Strain delivers the strength, longevity and installation efficiency demanded by professional fencers.

Its registered designs eliminate the drawbacks of timber — including short service life and reliance on chemical treatments — while providing a robust, galvanised steel structure that stands up to challenging ground conditions and long‑term use.

Key Benefits

  • Adapts easily to varied ground conditions and uneven topography
  • Lightweight components make transport and installation easier, especially on difficult‑access sites
  • Fast, simple installation with minimal tools required — no chainsaws needed
  • Straining posts and pegs can be driven manually or by machine
  • Adjustable design allows full pre‑loading, minimising movement when the fence is tensioned
  • Compatible with all intermediate post types, including steel and timber

Applications

  • Agricultural fencing
  • Livestock containment
  • Conservation and wildlife protection
  • Infrastructure and boundary fencing
  • Dog exercise and activity fields

Strainers and Struts

Manufactured from heavy‑duty galvanised steel tube, Pro‑Strain straining posts and strut pegs deliver exceptional strength and durability. Each post includes bolted heel and breast plates, with standard, extra‑large or plate‑free options depending on ground conditions.

Struts connect to the post and peg using an adjustable brace, or can be configured as a box brace linking two strainers — providing a stable, adaptable solution across varied terrain.

Straining / Turning Post

  • Material: 89mm × 3mm OD galvanised steel tube
  • Features: Pre‑drilled 13.5mm holes for heel/breast plates and a 12mm hole for the strut coupler
  • Benefit: Flexible installation tailored to soil type and load requirements

Struts

  • Material: 48mm × 3.2mm OD galvanised steel tube
  • Benefit: Engineered for long‑term strength and stability

Strut Pegs

  • Material: 89mm × 3mm galvanised steel tube
  • Length: 1 metre
  • Features: Pre‑drilled 13.5mm and 12mm holes for plate and coupler attachment

Couplers and Adjuster
A two‑part coupler system ensures secure, adjustable bracing:

  • Large coupler connects the strut to the peg
  • Small coupler fits into the adjustable brace and locks into the straining post
  • The adjuster allows the system to be fully pre‑loaded before fence tensioning
  • This mechanism increases stability and reduces post movement under load.

Breast and Heel Plates

Standard size: 250 × 250 × 4mm galvanised steel
Fixings: Drilled for M12 × 110mm bolts

Installation -

  • Heel plate: rear lower holes
  • Breast plate: front upper holes
  • Additional breast plate: front of strut peg
  • For softer ground, 350 × 250 × 4mm plates provide increased surface area and resistance.

Note: Bolts are designed to shear if they hit immovable underground obstacles. In chalky ground, omit the heel plate to avoid interference while retaining the breast plate to prevent rotation.

Kits and Multi‑packs

Kits
Choose a straining post kit and one or two strut kits depending on whether the post is used as an end, two‑way or corner strainer.

  • Includes all required components and fixings
  • Available in three lengths for livestock, cattle, rail and deer fencing
  • Optional extras available, such as extra‑large breast plates for soft ground

Multi‑packs
Ideal for larger installations, providing economical, easy‑to‑handle quantities of individual components.
